When planning your bathroom remodeling project, the choice of high-quality bathroom accessories, like mirrors or towel bars, can add an elegant finishing touch to your dream bathroom. But make sure you plan for bathroom accessories early in the process.
Once your floor plan is complete, choose exactly where you want to install your hardware. Note the location of studs, so you can adequately secure towel bars, towel rings, and other accessories that must withstand daily use.
Bath hardware is typically made from brass, but you can also purchase plastic, wood, or ceramic hardware. To be safe, Enterprise Home Remodeling suggests sticking to solid brass, and avoiding plastic whenever possible. If you choose ceramic, purchase before tile installation, so your accessories can be built directly into the wall.
A mirror can make or break a bathroom, so make sure you don't skimp on this essential bathroom accessory. Buy the largest mirror that will fit your space. A large mirror can make the entire room seem more spacious. Additionally, a mirror that extends to the backsplash will prevent water damage, making clean up easier, especially behind the faucet.
Plastic wall anchors are not the best choice to install bath accessories - and you should never use them. Toggle bolts are sufficient for gently used hardware. But grab bars, stone shower shelves, and other heavily used accessories should be screwed directly to wall studs - or 1-by-4 or 2-by-4 backing installed behind the drywall.
